KARIN SPRAGGS

Karin Spraggs first decided to become an artist at the age of ten when she received accolades for a picture she drew of she and her sister. While growing up in the South, her childhood influences were all about 70s pop culture: macraming plant holders, and batiking and tie dyeing fabric. Another childhood influence was the extensive traveling her family did. By the time she was seventeen she had been around the world.

Karin's college years were filled with design, papermaking and painting classes. She also studied art and design in Italy and graduate school in England. During this time, she developed her love for the classic European lifestyle which encompassed design, art and joie de vivre. Her first job was with The Pushpin Group, the renowned design studio. Karin learned about the application of a variety of graphics while working on projects as diverse as record covers and ice cream packaging. After working as a graphic designer and art director at a variety of ad agencies, Karin took time off to raise her two boys, Malcolm and Oliver. Looking for a way to capture her childrens' likeness that was both classic and modern, she started silkscreening silhouettes in bright vivid colors. She has a devoted following, witnessed by her work currently being commissioned by art patrons, philanthropists and movie stars.
